 Findings of the two-year study conducted by the advocacy group Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC):

More than 250,000 violations of the Safe Drinking Water Act occurred between 1991 and 1992.  

More than 90% of these violations resulted from failure by water suppliers to:

a.  test for certain water contaminants

b.  report contamination to the EPA

c.  use proper treatment techniques and

d.  notify the public of violations
